About Kingaroy and the South Burnett

Kingaroy is located approximately 220 km north-west of Brisbane where the D’Aguilar Highway meets the Bunya Highway. Kingaroy is the administrative hub of the South Burnett. The population of Kingaroy and its surrounds is approximately 10,000 people and the South Burnett Regional Council area’s population now exceeds 33,000.

Kingaroy is a rich agricultural area and is probably best known as Australia’s peanut capital. However, it also has a thriving primary industry in pigs & cattle, dubosia (a native plant to the area which produces medicinal drugs) and grain. Since the early 1990’s it has also become home to a growing wine industry which is already the largest in the State in terms of production.

Kingaroy’s population is also expected to double over the coming decades as a steadily growing population take advantage of the area’s great rural lifestyle, the area’s central location to Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.
